The Role

Reporting to the Regional President, the VP of Installation is responsible for translating strategic growth plans into actionable and defined operational plans for the assigned region in support of corporate and regional short- and long-term goals and objectives. The role provides key leadership in driving process discipline, field execution consistency, and financial performance improvement.

Core Responsibilities

Team Leadership: Responsible for supervising, managing, inspiring and leading a mix of direct and matrixed employees in a way that is consistent with the company's culture and values.
Field Planning: Works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to lead three-week look-aheads, crew scheduling, and field planning to ensure high levels of productivity, maintain project schedules, and fully utilize labor and equipment resources to meet financial goals.
Performance Actions: Manages and oversees performance-related actions for employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Training Needs: Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided.
Performance Reviews: Completes annual performance reviews for direct reports, construction staff planning and budgeting, employee hiring, onboarding and termination.
Safety Accountability: Accountable for safety results of all Installation team members. Monitors and addresses gaps in safety compliance with team members and in-house resources to ensure all company, customer and regulatory requirements are adhered to.
Financial Results: Accountable for financial success of all Installation efforts through the efficient, quality install of customer projects to include accurate and timely job costing, daily/weekly reporting, financial tracking, and gross margin achievement.
Unit Reporting: Leads the implementation of daily unit reporting across all installation crews to establish an earned value framework using both physical work completed and percent-of-completion (POC) methods. Ensures this data is accurately captured and used for performance tracking and forecasting.
Strategic Planning: Works closely with the Regional President in developing both short- and long-term objectives to drive regional performance, business opportunities and expansion of product offerings.
Playbook Ownership: Owns implementation and ongoing application of the Project Management Playbook, ensuring consistent use across projects to drive execution, accountability, and results.
Resource Utilization: Maximizes utilization of labor, equipment, and material resources to increase revenue and project-level profitability. Identifies underused assets and implements plans to improve deployment across regions. Owns and supports the weekly dashboard process; uses it as a tool to monitor performance, identify issues, and drive accountability and results across the installation team.
Cash Flow: Accountable for improving cash flow within the Installation service line through better billing practices, tighter schedule adherence, faster closeout procedures, and active management of change orders and collections. Supports and helps maintain positive cash flow at the service line level by driving timely billing, monitoring collections, and coordinating closely with project and finance teams.
Project Leadership: Responsible for applying effective leadership techniques to the planning, design and installation phases of projects from inception to completion for the purpose of controlling cost, time and re-work.
Cost Management: Ensures proactive cost management strategies and continual communication with leadership regarding cost risks and opportunities.
Installation Oversight: Oversees and guides all pre, during and post installation activities to maximize profitability, competitiveness, and accuracy in accordance with established process and procedure and regulatory requirements.
Contract Review: Reviews contracts and collaborates with teammates to negotiate contract terms, mitigate risks and profitability.
End-to-End Ops: Oversees the end-to-end operations of installation from estimating handoff to final acceptance on all company projects.

Business Development: Prior business development experience as a leader within a high growth, construction installation type organization.
Talent Development: Proven track record of identifying and developing talent.
Professionalism: Exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships.
Leadership Skills: Excellent time management, decision making, human relations, presentation, and organization skills with employees, customers and key constituents.
Systems Knowledge: Strong working knowledge and experience with business software and systems to include Microsoft Office Suite, ERP/MRP systems, quoting/estimating systems, and planning software.
Goal Setting: History and ability to clearly define goals and objectives and turn them into actionable plans to drive accountability and results for the team.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management and 5 or more years related experience leading Regional transportations projects and activities or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the construction/installation industry including estimating, contracts, materials, equipment, project scheduling and financial analysis required.
Preferred Industry: Knowledge of the ITS and/or Traffic Signal construction/installation industries highly desirable.

Work Conditions

Desk Work: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
